In December 2006, US-based Company Solectron Corporation, the leading global provider of electronics manufacturing services and integrated supply chain solutions, announced the building a new high-tech repair centre in the Czech Republic. The site was to be located in Plzeň and the grand opening ceremony was scheduled to take place during spring of 2007. The company promised to employ at least 100 highly-skilled personnel. According to CzechInvest Agency representative, the company would need about 50 graduates in its repair centre and even more people in the support services. Solectron planed to invest more than 3.5 million EUR in Plzeň. On 5 June 2007, the company announced the opening of a service centre for Europe in Plzeň where currently employs some 60 people. In the horizon of 2010, the foreign investor intends to hire a total 1,000 workers. It was also reported that the company has agreed to be acquired by its rival Flextronics at the end of 2007.
