The glass-factory Steklarna Rogaška announced dismissals of 200 workers, more than one-fifth of the total workforce. The company currently employs 830 people. Layoffs are part of the restructuring plan for the optimization of costs. According to the announcement, the factory will remain a centre for the production of the finest crystal glass and hand-made products of high quality. The company will also continue investing in production.
The glass-factory Steklarna Rogaška was purchased in 2015 by the Finnish multinational company Fiskars Group, which employs approximately 7,300 workers in 30 countries.
UPDATE 13/6/2020: Steklarna Rogaška announced dismissals of 200 workers early this year. The outbreak of the pandemic postponed the dismissals, but the management continued negotiations with trade unions during the lockdown. The company agreed to less direct dismissals than announced in the first place, 137 in total, while 53 persons will lose their jobs via other job reduction measures. Restructuring is allegedly necessary due to changing consumption of glass products. The company, now employing 830 workers, intends to keep its core business after restructuring.
