Additional Information
On 18 October 2017, the German optics and electronics manufacturer Carl Zeiss, confirmed the loss 140 jobs in and the relocation of 80 jobs from Wetzlar to Oberkochen due to internal restructuring. All jobs are part of the Zeiss Sports Optics in Wetzlar which currently has 300 employees. Cuts will mainly affect production. There is no time frame yet, however, negotiations with the works council regarding a social plan will start shortly.
Due to a deficit of 15 million Euros over the last ten years, cuts have to be made in order to preserve the site in Wetzlar and make Zeiss Sports Optics profitable again.
