The European Monitoring Centre on Change (EMCC) is an information resource established to promote an understanding of changes in the world of work, employment and restructuring. Its work is supported by a Network of Eurofound Correspondents across all EU Member States and Norway.
Well-functioning labour markets are a prerequisite for making full use of the job creation potential of the economy as it emerges from the financial and economic crisis.
Eurofound monitors and analyses the implications of structural change in the economy for Europe’s labour markets and employment.
Featured – Platform work: Maximising the potential while safeguarding standards?
Platform work, the matching of supply of and demand for paid work through an online platform or an app, emerged onto European labour markets about a decade ago. While still small in scale, it is growing and evolving into a variety of forms. Different types of platform work have significantly different implications for the employment and working conditions of the affiliated workers. Policy responses aimed at ensuring decent conditions in platform work should take these differences in consideration to be effective, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach. Eurofound’s recent policy brief 'Platform work: Maximising the potential while safeguarding standards?' highlights the main opportunities and challenges of specific types of platform work and illustrates some of the first attempts at addressing them in the EU. More initiatives of governments, social partners, the platform economy and other stakeholders addressing the emerging issues can be found in Eurofound’s web repository on the platform economy.
