The economic crisis has reshaped the lives of millions of European citizens. But how has it affected families with children? Children are more at risk of poverty or social exclusion than the overall population in a large majority of EU countries; hence, it is important to understand how the crisis has affected the households in which these children grow up. This report describes the changing quality of life across the EU for different types of families with children and compares their living standards and social situation. Grouping the EU Member States into four categories on the basis of the flexibility or otherwise of their family policies, it also examines potential patterns that may be related to different family policy approaches. Themes that emerge from the findings include the particular challenges facing lone parents, the greater difficulties facing jobless families since the onset of the crisis, and the increasing extent of conflict parents experience in seeking to balance their work and family lives.

    Qualidade de vida na Europa: As famílias e a crise económica

    Autor(es):
    Eurofound
    A crise económica alterou as vidas de milhões de cidadãos europeus. Mas que impacto teve nas famílias com filhos? Na grande maioria dos países da UE, as crianças correm maior risco de pobreza e exclusão social do que a população em geral, pelo que se torna importante perceber a forma como a crise afetou as famílias com filhos. Este relatório descreve, relativamente a diferentes tipos de famílias com filhos em toda a Europa, a mudança verificada na qualidade de vida, comparando os respetivos padrões de vida e situação social. Agrupando os Estados-Membros da UE em quatro categorias com base na flexibilidade ou não das respetivas políticas de família, examina potenciais padrões relacionados com diferentes abordagens de políticas de família. Os temas suscitados pelos resultados incluem os desafios específicos que se colocam às famílias monoparentais, as maiores dificuldades com que se deparam as famílias em situação de desemprego desde o início da crise e as maiores dificuldades dos pais em termos de compatibilização entre a vida laboral e a familiar.
