United Kingdom: Small Business Act becomes law

On 26 March, the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015 received royal assent. Among other measures, the Act:

  • puts an end to the use of exclusivity clauses in zero-hours contracts (these clauses prevent employees from working for another employer even when their main employer has not offered them work);
  • adds a further deterrent to breaches of national minimum wage legislation by introducing rules that mean that fines can be calculated on a per-worker basis.
