This report will focus on evaluating employment effects and looking at measures implemented to limit negative effects following the Coronavirus outbreak in Europe. Primarily, it aims to monitor the employment impact of the spread of the virus. Furthermore, it will look at how policies are addressing issues related to physical absences from the workplace, from both the perspectives of business continuity as well as the health and wages of employees. This will include how well-suited existing labour market policies, such as short-time working schemes and the regulation of flexible and remote work, have been in combatting the impact of the pandemic, and how they have been adapted. Lastly, the report will examine how social insurance systems, such as sickness benefits, and other policies cope with the various types of workplace absences.
