    2008 marked the completion of Eurofound’s four-year programme, Changing Europe: Better work, better life. Eurofound built on its work of previous years in providing comparative information, research and analysis on living and working conditions, industrial relations and the management of change for key actors in the field of EU social policy. As outlined in the 2005–2008 programme, Eurofound’s work is divided into three key tasks: monitoring and understanding change, researching and exploring what works, and communicating and sharing ideas and experience. Within these three tasks, its activities fall into four thematic areas: employment, industrial relations and partnership, work–life balance and social cohesion.

    2005 a reprezentat primul an din programul de lucru de patru ani (2005-2008) al Fundaţiei. Fundaţia a lansat noul său program, ‘Changing Europe, better work, better life’ (Schimbarea Europei, o muncă mai bună, o viaţă mai bună), cu energie şi ambiţie, reunind o gamă de proiecte de cercetare care acoperă cele patru teme prioritare: înmulţirea şi ameliorarea locurilor de muncă, echilibrul între muncă şi viaţă, sprijinirea participării şi a parteneriatului şi construirea coeziunii sociale. Evenimentul cel mai important al sfârşitului de an a fost numirea noului director al Fundaţiei, Jorma Karppinen, care ocupă această funcţie din decembrie.

    Presiunile globalizării şi schimbările demografice s-au impus din ce în ce mai mult pe măsură ce Uniunea Europeană se pregătea să îşi extindă şi mai mult frontierele spre Bulgaria şi România în cursul anului 2006. Factorii de decizie politică de la nivel european şi naţional se confruntă cu decizii importante privind probleme legate de migraţie, ocuparea forţei de muncă, educaţie, şanse egale şi politică socială. Cu privire la toate aceste probleme şi la multe altele, Fundaţia a furnizat cunoştinţe şi informaţii tranşante în cursul anului 2006.

    This report provides some perspectives on the effects of trade liberalisation on the European labour market. For its analysis, it draws on data from the European Restructuring Monitor (ERM), the only EU-wide monitoring instrument available. The 2007 ERM report identifies some of the recent and emerging trends in the current phase of globalisation and provides suggestions on how policy should be re-oriented to address these new circumstances.
