Tackling undeclared work database

Undeclared work can be defined as work which is in itself legal but is not declared to the authorities for tax, social security and/or labour law purposes. Across the 28 Member States of the European Union, a great deal of effort is being invested into developing and testing policy measures that aim to tackle undeclared work.

  The Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance has introduced several measures to combat undeclared and illegal employment in Cyprus. Among these measures are the expansion of the role of the mixed teams of inspectors who identify cases of undeclared employment, to include the application of the Equal Treatment in Employment and Occupation Law of 2004 in order to ensure that all employees are treated equally.

  The Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance has introduced several measures to combat undeclared and illegal employment in Cyprus. Among these measures is an amendment to the Social Insurance Law of 2010 specifically to oblige employers to present, whenever requested, a copy of a specific employment attestation for its employees.

  The Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance has introduced several measures to combat undeclared and illegal employment in Cyprus. Among these is the tightening of obligations and penalties in public work contracts in order to support the enforcement of labour legislation.

Tripartite committee to combat undeclared work in construction sector, Cyprus

In April 2007, a special technical committee for tripartite representation was set up, with the aim of finding ways to combat undeclared work in the construction sector (Τριμερής επιτροπή για την καταπολέμηση της αδήλωτης εργασίας στην οικοδομική βιομηχανία). Undeclared work tends to affect vulnerable groups of workers, such as migrants and Turkish Cypriots. The initiative includes increased inspection activity, particularly with regard to public works.
