Luxembourg: Minister announces plan to extend maternity leave
Proposals to extend maternity leave from 8 to 12 weeks for all women have been announced.
Corinne Cahen, Luxembourg's Minister of Family and Integration, revealed plans to extend maternity leave at the annual awards ceremony for Inspiring Wo-Men on 5 March. At the moment, if women in Luxembourg have had eight weeks' leave after the birth of their child and want a further month's maternity leave, they have to provide a medical certificate to prove that they breast-fed their child during the first four weeks after its birth. The right to a further month of leave will now be automatic.
