The European Monitoring Centre on Change (EMCC) is an information resource established to promote an understanding of changes in the world of work, employment and restructuring. Its work is supported by a Network of Eurofound Correspondents across all EU Member States and Norway.
Well-functioning labour markets are a prerequisite for making full use of the job creation potential of the economy as it emerges from the financial and economic crisis.
Eurofound monitors and analyses the implications of structural change in the economy for Europe’s labour markets and employment.
Featured - Cooperatives and social enterprises: Work and employment in selected countries
Cooperatives and social enterprises are recognised for their resilience to cyclical and structural economic changes and their capacity to contribute to local and regional economic development, including social inclusion. In recent years, attention has increasingly focused on their ability to further the EU policy goals of creating more and better jobs, countering the trend towards non-standard employment and fostering EU integration following the 2008 global financial crisis. Based on case studies from organisations in five EU Member States, this report investigates the contribution of European cooperatives and social enterprises to job creation and retention. It describes the characteristics of the jobs created and retained. It also outlines the various support measures provided by national organisations and their use by cooperatives and social enterprises.
