    2008 marked the completion of Eurofound’s four-year programme, Changing Europe: Better work, better life. Eurofound built on its work of previous years in providing comparative information, research and analysis on living and working conditions, industrial relations and the management of change for key actors in the field of EU social policy. As outlined in the 2005–2008 programme, Eurofound’s work is divided into three key tasks: monitoring and understanding change, researching and exploring what works, and communicating and sharing ideas and experience. Within these three tasks, its activities fall into four thematic areas: employment, industrial relations and partnership, work–life balance and social cohesion.

    Za Fundacijo je bilo leto 2005 prvo leto izvajanja novega štiriletnega delovnega programa za obdobje 2005–2008. Novega programa „Spreminjanje Evrope, boljše delo, boljše življenje“, se je Fundacija lotila z veliko energije in ambicij ter začela vrsto raziskovalnih projektov, s katerimi skuša zajeti štiri prednostne teme delovnega programa: ustvarjanje številnejših in boljših delovnih mest, vzpostavljanje ravnovesja med delom in zasebnim življenjem, podpiranje sodelovanja in partnerstva ter oblikovanje socialne kohezije. Najbolj pomemben dogodek ob koncu leta je bil imenovanje novega direktorja Fundacije, Jorme Karppinena, ki je mandat nastopil decembra.

    Ko se je Evropska unija v letu 2006 pripravljala na še eno širitev svojih meja na Bolgarijo in Romunijo, se je vse bolj čutil pritisk globalizacije in demografskih sprememb. Oblikovalci politike na ravni EU in na nacionalnih ravneh so pred pomembnimi odločitvami glede vprašanj, povezanih z migracijo, zaposlovanjem, izobraževanjem, enakimi možnostmi in socialno politiko. Fundacija je v letu 2006 zagotavljala najnovejše znanje in informacije o vseh teh in še drugih vprašanjih.

    This report provides some perspectives on the effects of trade liberalisation on the European labour market. For its analysis, it draws on data from the European Restructuring Monitor (ERM), the only EU-wide monitoring instrument available. The 2007 ERM report identifies some of the recent and emerging trends in the current phase of globalisation and provides suggestions on how policy should be re-oriented to address these new circumstances.
