Around one third (34%) of workplaces with 10 or more employees have a trade union or works council body in place. Considerable variation exists between countries: the rate is above 55% in Denmark, Sweden and Finland but below 20% in countries such as Turkey, Greece and Portugal. Substantial variations also exist depending on industry sector and workplace size. Many of these characteristics are related to the presence or absence of a trade union or works council. Workplace representation is more prevalent in countries where national or sectoral bargaining dominates. It is also higher in countries with more extensive levels of legislative support for workplace representation.

    Social dialog på arbetsplatserna i Europa: En analys av Europeiska företagsundersökningen 2009 - Sammanfattning

    Author(s):
    Eurofound
    Hur fungerar den sociala dialogen i praktiken, vilka former av representation finns det och hur väl fungerar de? Eurofounds Europeiska företagsundersökning 2009 (ECS) ger rikliga uppgifter från 30 länder för en närmare granskning av dessa frågor. Rapporten utgår från ECS och andra uppgiftskällor och behandlar faktorer som påverkar hur den sociala dialogen utvecklas i ett företag, framför allt med avseende på företagsråd och fackföreningar – företagets storlek och ålder, vilket slags produkt eller tjänst som erbjuds, arbetsgivarens val och arbetsstyrkans sammansättning är alla faktorer av betydelse. Den större ramen inverkar också, t.ex. i vilken utsträckning staten ingriper i den sociala dialogen och på vilken nivå förhandlingar äger rum.
