The average age of Czech employees has increased by 3.7 years in the last 20 years.

According to a report by the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), the average age of an employee is now 42.4 years (in Czech). Apart from an ageing population and an increase in life expectancy, there have been significant changes in the labour market and education system. Young people are staying in education for longer and the retirement age has been steadily rising, meaning that greater numbers of older people are staying in work. Moreover, young people in the Czech Republic who have studied to secondary or tertiary level are less economically active than in other EU countries.
