Information sheet

Working conditions in acceding and candidate countries (info sheet)

Published: 15 October 2003

This information sheet provides a brief overview of the report on working conditions in acceding and candidate countries. Up to now, there has been no common basis of description regarding working conditions in future Member States. Therefore, the Foundation embarked on a comprehensive survey in 2001, covering the 10 acceding countries as well as two candidate countries, Bulgaria and Romania. In 2002, the survey was extended to Turkey. The aim was to provide an overview for EU policymakers as they set about shaping the contours of the new European Union. A report (EF0306) and summary (EF0396) on this topic are also available. Information sheets set out a brief overview of each project, forming a useful introduction point. They answer key questions as to: What is the project about? Why is the research being carried out? What are the findings/objectives and whom do they concern? When will the project be completed? How might the findings be translated into action?
