Codes of conduct and international framework agreements: New forms of governance at company level - Case study: PSA

Published: 15 October 2008

On 1 March 2006, the CEO and the director of human resources management of PSA Peugeot Citroën, the International Metalworkers’ Federation (IMF) and the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) signed the PSA Peugeot Citroën Global Framework Agreement on Social Responsibility (IFA), ‘A commitment to social responsibility without borders’. Since then, 33 national trade unions in the 10 countries where the group employs more than 500 workers have also signed that agreement. The IFA deals with the group’s corporate social responsibility towards its employees as well as towards its local communities. Negotiation and implementation of the IFA are managed by the group’s human resources department. This case study is based on interviews with representatives of the management and of the European Works Council of the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group, as well as with a representative of the International Metalworkers Federation.
