European Works Councils case studies: HSBC

The HSBC group, which has its headquarters in the UK, is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with more than 8,000 offices in 80 different countries. The group provides a full range of financial services. In September 1994, the Council of Ministers decided on a Directive on the establishment of a European Works Council for the purposes of informing and consulting employees (94/45/EC). The EWC was established as the HSBC European Council in September 1996 and was subsequently revised in November 2001.
