European Works Councils case studies: The Pirelli Group
Published: 22 December 2005
In September 1994, the Council of Ministers decided on a Directive on the establishment of a European Works Council (EWC) for the purposes of informing and consulting employees (94/45/EC). The emergence of EWCs is a major part of the development of an industrial relations system at European level. The Pirelli EWC was established in November 1998 according to Article 6 of the European Directive and to Italian collective agreement of November 1996. It aims to inform and consult workers’ representatives within EU member countries.
