Description

Ford motor company has announced plans to shut down two plants in the UK resulting in the loss of 1,400 jobs. The company will close its Southampton van factory and its Dagenham stamping plant in east London. The cuts are to be implemented in 2013.

According to trade union sources, the number of job losses could reach 2000 with production of the Transit van moving to Turkey. Ford aims at implementing most of the job cuts through voluntary redundancies and re-deployment.
