Description

In June 2003, the SNCB, the Belgian railway company, announced a job reduction scheme, 'Move 2007', affecting 10,000 workers. After negotiations with trade unions, the SNCB announced in September 2003 that the 10,000 were not in the agenda anymore. However, the dialogue was broken between management and unions. In February 2004, an agreement was reached. 2,500 jobs will go by natural attrition. Incentives will be proposed in order to achieve 1,000 voluntary leaves. The objective is to reach 38,000 employees by 2005, instead of the 42,000 the SNCB formerly employed. In February 2004, the company employed 40,800 people.
