Description

Whirlpool, the world’s leading manufacturer of home appliances, is to cut 431 jobs. The job losses will affect the Whirlpool’s plants located in the province of Varese. 391 jobs will be cut at the plant located at Cassinetta (out of 2,600 employees) and another 40 at the plant located at Comerio (out of 500). This decision follows the global reorganisation plan that the company announced at the end of October. The plan envisaged around 5,000 job losses worldwide (see related fact sheet).

The trade unions and the company will meet next week in order to find adequate measures to reduce the negative social effects for the redundant workers and discuss about the investments that the company planned in Italy.

Whirlpool Corporation is the world’s leading manufacturer and distributor of domestic appliances, with more than 72 manufacturing and technology research centers around the world. In Italy, the company has around 3,500 employees and the Whirlpool Europe division is headquartered at Comerio.
