The three peak-level Swedish trade union organisations have together launched Union to Union, an overseas aid organisation dedicated to cooperating with and supporting trade union organisations globally.
An overseas aid organisation has been launched by the three peak-level trade union organisations (in Swedish) – the Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations (Saco), the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) and the Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees (TCO). The new organisation, Union to Union, replaces the previous LO-TCO collaboration (LO-TCO Biståndsnämnd).
The aim of Union to Union is to cooperate with and support trade union organisations globally, through 99 development projects in approximately 80 countries. The collaboration includes education in trade union issues, the importance of human rights at work, trade union leadership, the work environment, equal rights and social dialogue. Speaking on the launch of the organisation in May 2014, Tobias Baudin, vice president of LO, commented that with this new step Swedish trade unions will become better at supporting new labour movements around the world (in Swedish).
In 2014, LO and TCO's overseas's aid organisation started reforming its by-laws in order to be able to include Saco in its activities. Göran Arrius, president of Saco, says the reason Saco is joining the collaboration is to increase its influence on working conditions for professionals around the world (in Swedish). Joining LO and TCO in Union to Union also gives the Saco-affiliated unions access to funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) for their aid projects.
