Event background

The research project 'DISCIT- Making persons with disabilities full citizens' announces its final conference in Brussels, Belgium, 09 – 10 November 2015. At the conference researchers from the project, civil society organisations, leading scholars in the field, and various policy makers, will discuss the findings from the project and their potential impact on social policy on a European level.

In short, DISCIT aims to produce new knowledge enabling Member States, affiliated European countries and the European Union to achieve full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in society and the economy. In investigating the social and political conditions for making such participation a reality, the project adopts a multifaceted understanding of active citizenship to operationalise the notion of 'full and effective participation' in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The conference will be held at the The Norwegian Mission to the EU, and it will start Monday 9th of November at 1 p.m. and end 2 p.m. at Tuesday 10th of November, 2015.

The program  will include several panel discussions related to key themes in the project including:

  • Main DISCIT findings

  • Community living in Europe – the experiences of persons with disabilities

  • The life courses of persons with psycho-social disabilities

  • Labour market participation of persons with disabilities

  • The UN CRPD – Opportunities for persons with disabilities and their representative organisations

  • Accessible technology for persons with disabilities

  • Closing session: How can DISCIT findings be used?

Eurofound contribution

Anna Ludwinek, Research Manager with the Living conditions and quality of life unit, will present Eurofound research findings on active inclusion of young people with disabilities.

It is a closed conference only for people with invitation.
