Overview
The 19th European Social Services Conference is organised by the European Social Network (ESN) in cooperation with the Polish Presidency of the European Union. This, the European Year of Volunteering, is a challenging time for all those involved in social services with the continuing economic and social challenge to public finances. This has contributed to a debate about its role in empowering and caring for individuals and neighbourhoods with a renewed interest in innovation, active citizenship and improving service effectiveness. The conference is aiming to provide learning and networking across a wide range of areas, from children and families to long term care of older people, from integration of migrants to resource management, from mental health to employment.
Eurofound workshop
Measures to promote volunteering by older people - Workshop 1 (5)
Based on an extensive Eurofound research project carried out across 10 member states, the workshop will explore and compare the extent to which volunteering contributes to national level strategies/policies to support social inclusion of the elderly; the role of public/private sectors and NGOs/local community organisations in such social participation measures for older people; and the role of volunteering in measures for transition from work to retirement.
Detailed information about the content of the workshop session will be available nearer the time of the conference.
