Event background

17-18 April 2007, Berlin congress center

The Foundation will contribute to the German Presidency conference 'Demographic change as opportunity: the economic potential of the elderly', jointly organised by the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the European Commission. More specifically, the Foundation will participate in and report back from:

  • Forum B: Older People as Producers – Successful in Business

Objectives of the conference

Older people have the knowhow, commitment and economic clout to make significant contributions to growth and economic development. The potential of older people has been growing in importance since the Lisbon Strategy objective, which calls for the European Union to develop into one of the world’s most dynamic and competitive economic regions by the year 2010, was agreed.

The aim of this conference is to focus attention on the economic potential represented by older people and to promote crossborder discussion as well as information exchange. Progress will be sought in answer to the question: How can Europe benefit from the changing demographics?

Note: A programme is available.
