Event background

Workshop 2 - European industrial relations country profiles benchmarked against the Lisbon strategy, Dublin, 9-10 March 2006

Background of the project

The Foundation is carrying out a research project on Quality of industrial relations, which aims at developing comparable industrial relations indicators and country profiles for the EU Member States and benchmarking them in the light of the Lisbon strategy. The renewed Lisbon strategy 2005 stresses the importance of increasing economic growth, productivity, competitiveness and job creation.

Objectives

The main objective is to show how different industrial relations models or social dialogue models could help to achieve Lisbon strategy goals. What is the present situation? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the various models and clusters? What are the opportunities and threads? What could social partners do to support the process? How could new models be developed? These are some of the issues that will be debated during the workshop. A provisional programme is available.

Participants

Participants will represent social partners and governments as well as national academic experts in industrial relations from all EU Member States. Observers will come from the four acceding and candidate countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Turkey. This second workshop will look at 13 countries: France, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Observers will come from Romania and Turkey. Participation is by invitation only.
