Information on traineeships

The post-graduate traineeship programme is addressed to recent university graduates, without excluding those who – in the framework of lifelong learning – have recently obtained their university qualification and are at the beginning of a new professional career.

A new traineeship programme will be launched in March 2024.

Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for telephone interviews, throughout the year, according to business needs. Traineeships are likely to be offered from June at the earliest.

Six-month traineeships will be offered on the basis that the candidate has the ability to participate to the extent necessary and will benefit from the experience. The traineeship can be extended up to a maximum of 12 months.

Eurofound is an equal opportunities employer, we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

For further information on terms and conditions, interested applicants should read the Rules governing the Official Traineeship Scheme (2024) and the Frequently Asked Questions about traineeships.

What's it like to be a trainee at Eurofound?

Barbora Macková

A research traineeship at Eurofound has given me the opportunity to be part of a team developing projects on working conditions in the European Union such as the European Working Conditions Survey or the Critical Workers project. I have been able to use my skills in the field of qualitative as well as quantitative research. The traineeship also helped me to deepen my knowledge of how the EU works when it comes to working life policies. Overall, it is very useful experience for my future career.

Dublin is a small capital city but has a lively music scene and lots of lovely pubs. The wilder, more scenic parts of Ireland can be explored on weekend trips.

Since joining as a graduate trainee in the Information and Communication Unit in September 2022, I have had the opportunity to use my pre-existing skills and knowledge while simultaneously learning a lot and growing thanks to the support of my colleagues.

I have been treated as a team member throughout and those around me have acted as great mentors and shown a real interest in me, my work and my future. I have been responsible for much of Eurofound’s presence on social media, as well as drafting press releases, supporting the events team and generally assisting with all things media and promotions.

I have no doubt that working with fascinating research, with supportive, talented and friendly colleagues, will help immensely with my career progression as I take the early steps in the social policy and media field.

Elisa Staffa

Prior to joining the Employment research unit in Eurofound in November 2021, I completed a Master's degree in Economics at University of Rome La Sapienza. I was very interested in research related to labour markets and restructurings, so the traineeship turned out to be perfect for me. I was responsible for maintaining a database on restructuring events across the European Union (ERM), but I was also involved in projects and publications on relevant topics, like telework, structural changes in labour markets and the impact of the green transition on employment. Overall, I can say I really improved my quantitative and qualitative skills and got to know what working in research is. Even though I was only a trainee, my voice has always been heard and I found a very welcoming and collaborative environment made by other researchers from whom I learnt a lot.

Living in Dublin is fun; it can be quite expensive, but the grant provided has always been enough. Usually there is a group of trainees and it's very easy to make friendships.

Working for this EU Agency was a privilege, because I really felt at the heart of the research supporting the EU's policymaking in employment, working conditions and social policies.

I took the risk, bet on myself, and Eurofound's traineeship helped me to find my way in life and opened many doors for my career. I really wish the same to future trainees: it's up to you to grasp all opportunities and make the best of this experience!
