In cooperation with the Latvian EU Presidency, the Saeima (Latvian Parliament), Eurofound (The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions) hosted a conference entitled, 'Workplace practices: Creating a win-win for companies and employees' to present the results of the 3rd European Company Survey (ECS) at the national Parliament in Riga on Monday 30 March 2015.
The ECS is carried out every four years and the 3rd European Company Survey covers more than 30,000 companies in 32 countries with interviews from senior decision-makers responsible for staff as well as formal employee representatives. The findings reveal an association between certain combinations of workplace practices and positive outcomes for both workers and companies. The report not only presents the incidence of these practices but also shows how practices relate to each other and to outcomes for companies and workers. An interesting aspect of the survey is that it was carried out at a time when Europe was only just starting to recover from the crisis
The one-day high-level event brought together up to 100 representatives of national and EU-level social partners, national governments and the European institutions, as well as company managers and workers’ representatives, academic experts and representaives from the world of business. It provided an opportunity for lively discussions on the survey results, particularly as much recent debate has centred on ‘workplace innovation’ which stresses the importance of tapping into employee knowledge to achieve ‘win-win’ outcomes benefiting both companies and employees.
