Eurofound, in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Ireland, organised a Citizens’ Dialogue on 'Quality of life in Europe – How does Ireland measure up?'  on Thursday 13 December from 12.30 to 14.00.

Using Eurofound’s recent 2016 European Quality of Life Survey (EQLS) this town hall style meeting was an opportunity to hear how Ireland compares to other countries in areas such as employment, income, education, housing, family, health and work-life balance. It also covered subjective topics like people's levels of happiness, how satisfied they are with their lives, and how they perceive the quality of their societies. The panel discussion highlighted the findings for Ireland and explored with participants possible lessons to be learned from other Member States.

With a welcome and introduction by Gerry Kiely, Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland, and moderated by Mary McCaughey, Head of Communication at Eurofound, panellists were:

  • Mairead McGuinness MEP, Vice-President of the European Parliament
  • Tadas Leončikas , Senior Research Manager, Eurofound - [Presentation]
  • Dr Shana Cohen, Director of TASC, social policy think-tank

The event started with a light lunch at 12.30 and was followed by a debate from 13.00 to 14.00.
