Julkaistu: 10 January 2006

The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, which is based in Dublin, published a new industrial relations dictionary on 30 November 2005, available online at /ef/search/node/areas OR industrialrelations OR dictionary OR index?oldIndex [1]. The Foundation describes it as a comprehensive collection of the most commonly-used terms in employment and industrial relations at EU level. According to the Foundation’s acting director, Willy Buschak, it has been compiled in response 'to an increasing demand for an up-to-date, easily accessible and useful resource on the European system of industrial relations'.[1] www.eurofound.europa.eu/ef/search/node/areas OR industrialrelations OR dictionary OR index?oldIndex

At the end of November 2005, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions launched a new European industrial relations dictionary, which aims to provide a clear insight into the workings of industrial relations at European level.

The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, which is based in Dublin, published a new industrial relations dictionary on 30 November 2005, available online at [/ef/search/node/areas OR industrialrelations OR dictionary OR index?oldIndex](/search/node/areas OR industrialrelations OR dictionary OR index?oldIndex). The Foundation describes it as a comprehensive collection of the most commonly-used terms in employment and industrial relations at EU level. According to the Foundation’s acting director, Willy Buschak, it has been compiled in response 'to an increasing demand for an up-to-date, easily accessible and useful resource on the European system of industrial relations'.

Buschak elaborated on the publication’s wide target audience: 'The dictionary is aimed at assisting users such as members of trade union and employer organisations, persons from government and international bodies, academics, researchers and all those wishing to gain relevant and detailed information about European industrial relations concepts and practices.'

To be updated annually, the dictionary has been designed as an easy-to-use online reference tool, containing almost 300 alphabetically listed entries. It features concise definitions and relevant contextual information, adapted to include the latest political and institutional developments. Background information is provided on the industrial relations context, institutional framework, legal framework, collective industrial relations, individual employment, free movement of workers, discrimination and equality in employment, health and safety and movement towards an EU system of industrial relations. It also provides hyperlinks to EU legislation and case law.

The dictionary will exist side-by-side with EMIRE, the Foundation’s online version of the European Employment and Industrial Relations Glossaries which explain the national industrial relations systems of the EU member states through their terminology, and which is available at: [/ef/search/node/emire OR emire?oldIndex](/search/node/emire OR emire?oldIndex). EMIRE will not be updated.

The Foundation is inviting feedback and comments on the new dictionary via a link on the site.
