Event background

29-30 April 2013, Dublin, Ireland

Venue: Dublin Castle

The conference on Women’s economic engagement and the Europe 2020 agenda will take place in Dublin Castle and will be hosted by the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU. It is organised by the European Commission and will bring together national experts on gender equality and employment, academics, representatives of the Commission and the European Parliament as well as NGOs.

It links with the employment target of the Europe 2020 agenda and will draw from recent research on 'Gender equality: Employment, education and entrepreneurship', done by the OECD for the Commission.

The event will focus on 5 topics:

  • More women in the workforce: Making sense for business and the economy

  • Women returning to work: A 'win-win' for women and for the economy

  • Challenges for women in the workplace: Working together to overcome barriers

  • Towards the top: Advancing women in the workplace

  • Striking out alone: Women and entrepreneurship

Key speakers will include Alan Shatter TD, Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence; Kathleen Lynch TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Disability, Equality, Mental Health and Older People; and László Andor, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

Eurofound will contribute with a presentation by Erika Mezger, Deputy Director.

Information is available on the Irish Presidency website.
