As part of our Virtual Visits initiative, Eurofound organised an exclusive online interactive webinar with its experts on ‘Improving job quality in a tight labour market’ on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, 11:00-12:15 (Czech time).

Event overview

This event took place in the context of Eurofound’s ongoing efforts with key stakeholders at the national level to ensure widespread dissemination and dialogue on our research findings.

Czechia’s tight labour market is focusing attention on how to attract and retain workers in occupations facing shortages. Job quality is associated with a better working life, with benefits for workers, companies and the European social model. In Czechia, the latest findings from Eurofound’s European Working Conditions Survey 2024 show that particularly relevant issues include challenges relating to earnings and job prospects while skills and discretion and working-time quality also present challenges.

Workers in shortage occupations experience diverse job quality profiles but most frequently experience poorer physical environments and working time quality.

These challenges are particularly relevant in sectors and occupations experiencing recruitment difficulties, where improving working conditions can support retention and make jobs more sustainable.

The survey findings for Czechia also highlight wider issues around workers’ confidence in improving their working conditions and their ability to remain in work as they age. Against this background, the visit explored how better job quality, skills and working conditions can contribute to addressing labour shortages and making better use of Czechia’s available workforce.

This event took place in collaboration with Eurofound’s Czech Board Members and with its national correspondent in Czechia.
