W ciągu 10 lat, od 2014 do 2024 r., liczba pracowników służb socjalnych w UE wzrosła z 8 mln do 10 mln. Stanowią oni obecnie 5 proc. całkowitej siły roboczej w UE. Jednocześnie sektor ten boryka się z niedoborem siły roboczej i nadal charakteryzuje się niskimi płacami – o około 20 % niższymi niż średnie wynagrodzenie w całej gospodarce państw członkowskich.
