Event background

Date and time: 13 July 2022 | 13.00 - 14.00 GMT (14.00-15.00 CEST)

Eurofound Executive Director, Ivailo Kalfin discussed Living and working in an era of disruption as part of the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) ‘Insights’ webinar series.

Amidst a period of unprecedented social and economic upheaval, Ivailo Kalfin, Executive Director of Eurofound, discussed the radical consequences for living and working conditions across Europe. The implications for society arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, inflation and rising energy prices were also explored. The consequences of these developments for financial security, access to healthcare, the nature of work, trust in government, mental health and wellbeing – especially for women and young people – were particularly examined.

These consequences were assessed by drawing on Eurofound’s Living, working and COVID-19 e-survey, which provide a unique snapshot of living and working in Europe over the past two years. The fifth round of the survey was completed in May 2022 and was based on responses from over 200,000 people. Eurofound’s findings give valuable insights into how living and working conditions have changed and on key challenges policymakers will need to address.
