Event background

The last conference of the InGRID project took place in Brussels on 17 January 2017.

Objectives

Europe is confronted with another climate warming - a social one. The crisis is far from over and all over Europe people are still suffering under the consequences. Many Europeans have experienced decreases in living standards, resulting in poverty, but also growing inequalities. The Europe 2020 Strategy is since 2010 the overarching policy initiative which brings together all areas of EU competence and activity in order to prepare the EU societies for the next decade. The priority of inclusive growth is aiming to raise labour market participation, to fight poverty and to strengthen social cohesion. The Union is thus struggling to reach these goals at the 2020 horizon.

InGRID as research infrastructure project serves the social sciences community that aspires to make an evidence-based contribution to this European policy challenge of inclusive growth. It is a social sciences community that focuses on social in/exclusion, vulnerability-at-work and related social and labour market policies from a European comparative perspective. It is an interdisciplinary field of poverty research, labour studies, policy analysis and social statistics. Key tools in this social science research are all types of data: statistics, administrative data, surveys and policy indicators.

The objectives of this final forum event were:

  • to evaluate the status of this research infrastructure

  • and to stimulate the discussion on deepening and enlarging the research infrastructure.

Eurofound contribution

Erika Mezger, Deputy Director, presented some reflections from Eurofound’s perspective on evidence-based research and the research infrastructure(s) for European inclusive growth.
