Workshop on analysis of the socioeconomic situation of migrants - Gathering comparable data on their living conditions, 17 November 2010, Brussels, Belgium

Venue: Crowne Plaza Europa Hotel Brussels, meeting room 'Van Gogh'

Background

The migrant population in Europe has grown in recent decades and now constitutes 6.4% of the EU population (almost 32 million people), with one third of them being citizens of another Member State. This increase has led to a demand for more data about the characteristics of migrants in order to better understand their situation in society as well as to improve integration policies.

Objectives

The first and second sessions of this workshop will focus on how the existing international surveys address the living conditions of migrants, the challenges associated with this and the actions that will be carried out by the different organisations. The final session aims to identify needs for future research by mapping out current EU policy initiatives.

A background note, a programmepresentations, and a report on the workshop are available.
