Conclusiones principales

  • La ECS 2019 demuestra que las empresas pueden diseñar sus prácticas en el lugar de trabajo de tal modo que contribuyan a generar resultados que beneficien tanto a los trabajadores como a los empleadores. El presente informe está basado en la cuarta edición de la Encuesta Europea de Empresas (ECS, en sus siglas en inglés), realizada conjuntamente por Eurofound y Cedefop en 2019. Describe una amplia gama de prácticas y estrategias aplicadas por las empresas europeas en términos de organización del trabajo, gestión de recursos humanos, creación y utilización de capacidades y participación de los empleados. El informe expone cómo se combinan estas prácticas y de qué modo los «paquetes de prácticas» resultantes influyen en dos resultados beneficiosos tanto para los empleados como para los empleadores: el bienestar en el lugar de trabajo y el rendimiento de la organización.

El análisis concluye que las empresas con mayor probabilidad de generar este resultado beneficioso para todas las partes son aquellas que combinan un alto grado de autonomía de los trabajadores, una estrategia de motivación equilibrada, una estrategia global de formación y aprendizaje y un alto grado de participación directa de los trabajadores en la toma de decisiones, y que ofrecen el apoyo de la dirección a estas prácticas. Para impulsar la adopción de prácticas orientadas a los empleados, particularmente respecto a la autonomía, las competencias y la participación de los trabajadores, debe ofrecerse el apoyo adecuado al personal directivo, ya que desempeña un papel clave en la decisión de iniciar el cambio en el lugar de trabajo.     Customised reports

    To show appreciation for the time the ECS 2019 management respondents invested in filling out the questionnaire, Eurofound and Cedefop offered to generate a customised report for their establishment.

    The reports are generated automatically, and compare the establishment with other establishments in the same country, size category and sector. They include information on market characteristics, product market strategy, innovation, establishment performance, workplace relations, and human resources challenges.

    Over 13,000 respondents requested to receive such a customised report. Upon finalisation of the dataset the at the end of 2019, the reports were generated, and they were distributed to respondents in the beginning of 2020.

This report presents the results of research conducted largely prior to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Europe in February 2020. For this reason, the results do not fully take account of the outbreak.

    Eurofound’s European Company Survey (ECS) maps and analyses company policies and practices which can have an impact on smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as the development of social dialogue in companies. This series consists of outputs from the ECS 2019, the fourth edition of the survey. The survey was first carried out in 2004–2005 as the European Survey on Working Time and Work-Life Balance. 

  • European Company Surveys

    The European Company Survey (ECS) is carried out every four to five years since its inception in 2004–2005, with the latest edition in 2019. The survey is designed to provide information on workplace practices to develop and evaluate socioeconomic policy in the EU. It covers issues around work organisation, working time arrangements and work–life balance, flexibility, workplace innovation, employee involvement, human resource management, social dialogue, and most recently also skills use, skills strategies and digitalisation.
