Minister Healy-Rae launches tree planting event to mark Eurofound’s 50th anniversary
Minister of State with responsibilities for Forestry, Horticulture and Farm Safety, Mr Michael Healy-Rae, TD, joined children from the local national school St Columbanus to launch a tree planting event on the grounds of Eurofound, Loughlinstown, Dublin on Wednesday, 19 March 2025.

Event background
The event was held as part of Irish National Tree Week, also commemorating Eurofound’s 50th anniversary as the only EU agency based in Ireland.
The Minister along with Eurofound staff and school children planted a bird cherry tree (Prunus Padus) in a prominent location and 50 native Irish saplings to commemorate Eurofound’s five decades of supporting better policies for a strong social Europe.
This event also aligns with the European Commission’s #3BillionTrees Pledge to plant at least 3 billion additional trees in the EU by 2030, and the EU’s new For Our Planet campaign which aims to encourage citizens and civil society to take action for our planet, including by planting trees.
The tree planting at Eurofound was organised in partnership with Crann - Ireland’s leading voluntary tree organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of trees. Tree planting plays a vital role in tackling climate change and fostering community bonds as well as enhancing social cohesion, while protecting and restoring nature in Europe.
