Mental health in Europe is at a critical crossroads. While some indicators have improved since the pandemic, a new Eurofound report reveals concerning trends, including an alarming halt to the decades-long decline in suicide rates. Mary McCaughey speaks with Hans Dubois, a senior research manager in Eurofound's Social Policies unit, to explore this complex issue, highlighting that poor mental health is disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups. Mary McCaughey er informations- og kommunikationschef i Eurofound. Hun er uddannet fra Trinity College i Dublin og College of Europe i Brügge og begyndte at arbejde i Bruxelles med Europolitics og Wall Street Journal Europe. Hun arbejdede for Association of European Parliamentarians with Africa (AWEPA) i Sydafrika under landets overgang til demokrati, og i 1998 tiltrådte hun stillingen som talsmand for Den Europæiske Unions delegation i Pretoria, hvor hun ledede dens presse- og informationsafdeling under forhandlingerne om frihandelsaftalen mellem EU og Sydafrika. Efter afslutningen af Kosovo-krigen arbejdede hun som kommunikationskonsulent for Det Europæiske Genopbygningsagentur i Serbien. Hun tiltrådte stillingen som chefredaktør i Eurofound i 2003.

Hans Dubois er seniorforskningsleder i Eurofounds enhed for socialpolitik. Hans forskningsemner omfatter boliger, overdreven gældsætning, sundhedspleje, langtidspleje, sociale ydelser, pension og livskvalitet i lokalområdet. Før han kom til Eurofound, var han adjunkt ved Kozminski Universitet (Warszawa). Han afsluttede en ph.d. i Business Administration and Management ved Bocconi University (Milano) efter at have arbejdet som forskningsmedarbejder ved European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (Madrid).
