Background

This seminar is organised jointly by the Turkish Ministry of Labour and Social Security, EU Coordination Department, Ankara, and the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound), Dublin.

Objectives

Families and childcare are moving to the forefront of social policy within the EU and at the international level. Care provision is an important area of research in Eurofound. With this in mind, Eurofound initiated studies exploring the following key aspects: employment initiatives that support the development of a skilled childcare workforce, and the affordability and sustainability of provision for children living in disadvantaged areas. As well as encouraging and facilitating women to enter the labour market, the provision of high-quality childcare is also a way to support families by facilitating a better work-life balance and ensuring the welfare of children themselves. It is increasingly being recognised that poverty and social exclusion still affect many children in Europe.
