On 29 March 2023, Eurofound and the European Labour Authority (ELA) are organising a one-day event on labour shortages in the EU: Where are the shortages, where are the workers? While the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated shortages in some sectors where they had been endemic for some time, recent developments in the economy and labour market, combined with the challenges of the digital and green transition, have further increased pressure on Europe’s tight labour market.

The EU Employment Committee (EMCO) will meet on 20–21 March 2023 under the Swedish Presidency of the EU for a thematic discussion on strengthening social dialogue. At the request of the Swedish Presidency, Eurofound has prepared a background paper for this meeting on Trends in national social dialogue as response to external shocks or crises, covering the period from the financial crisis of 2008 until today.

The EU Presidency of Sweden has organised a 'High-level meeting on active and autonomous ageing' on 13-14 February 2023. The aim of the meeting is to highlight various aspects related to population ageing and foster a discussion on both challenges and opportunities brought by demographic change in EU Member States. The event will focus on how to enable longer and more sustainable working lives as well as on how to attract and retain carers with the right skills, in order to provide sustainable and quality care for older people at a time when more people are living longer.
