Mary McCaughey speaks with Hans Dubois, a senior research manager in Eurofound's Social Policies unit, to explore this complex issue, highlighting that poor mental health is disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups. Mary McCaughey is hoofd Informatie en Communicatie bij Eurofound. Afgestudeerd aan het Trinity College in Dublin en het Europacollege in Brugge, begon ze in Brussel te werken bij Europolitics en de Wall Street Journal Europe. Ze werkte samen met de Vereniging van Europese Parlementariërs met Afrika (AWEPA) in Zuid-Afrika tijdens de overgang van het land naar democratie, en in 1998 nam ze de functie van woordvoerder op zich bij de delegatie van de Europese Unie in Pretoria, waar ze leiding gaf aan de pers- en voorlichtingsafdeling tijdens de onderhandelingen over de vrijhandelsovereenkomst tussen de EU en Zuid-Afrika. Na het einde van de Kosovo-oorlog werkte ze als communicatieadviseur voor het Europees Bureau voor Wederopbouw in Servië. In 2003 werd zij hoofdredacteur bij Eurofound.

Hans Dubois is senior onderzoeksmanager bij de eenheid Sociaal Beleid van Eurofound. Zijn onderzoeksthema's zijn onder meer huisvesting, overmatige schuldenlast, gezondheidszorg, langdurige zorg, sociale uitkeringen, pensionering en kwaliteit van leven in de lokale omgeving. Voordat hij bij Eurofound in dienst trad, was hij universitair docent aan de Kozminski-universiteit (Warschau). Hij voltooide een doctoraat in Business Administration and Management aan de Bocconi Universiteit (Milaan), nadat hij als onderzoeksmedewerker had gewerkt bij het European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (Madrid).
