Za 10 let od roku 2014 do roku 2024 se počet pracovníků v sociálních službách v EU zvýšil z 8 milionů na 10 milionů. Ti nyní tvoří 5 % celkové pracovní síly v EU. Toto odvětví se zároveň potýká s nedostatkem pracovních sil a nadále se vyznačuje nízkými mzdami, které jsou přibližně o 20 % nižší než průměrná mzda v ekonomikách členských států jako celku.
