Eurofound’s European Company Survey (ECS) maps and analyses company policies and practices which can have an impact on smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as the development of social dialogue in companies. This series consists of outputs from the ECS 2009, the second edition of the survey. The survey was first carried out in 2004–2005 as the European Establishment Survey on Working Time and Work-Life Balance.
- This report analyses data from Eurofound’s European Company Survey of 2009 to examine the incidence of performance-related pay (PRP) in European establishments and what determines it, with a specific focus on the role of employment relations. Larger establishments, those in foreign ownership, in the financial intermediation and commerce sectors, and those located in some central and eastern European countries are more likely to have a PRP scheme based on the performance of individuals.
- Report25 Liepa 2012Around one third (34%) of workplaces with 10 or more employees have a trade union or works council body in place. Considerable variation exists between countries: the rate is above 55% in Denmark, Sweden and Finland but below 20% in countries such as Turkey, Greece and Portugal. Substantial variations also exist depending on industry sector and workplace size. Many of these characteristics are related to the presence or absence of a trade union or works council. Workplace representation is more prevalent in countries where national or sectoral bargaining dominates.

The report provides an overview of the literature on innovative work practices and starts with an inventory of the many practices have been identified as innovative. The analytical part of the paper is based on Eurofound’s own European Company Survey (ECS). The dataset covers 27,160 establishments in 30 countries, probably making it the most extensive dataset ever used for this purpose and the only cross-national attempt.

This trend has been especially strong in Europe, where the issue of different working time arrangements is an important part of the discussion among policymakers and social partners, and something which the European Union (EU) has promoted to increase flexibility for workers and employers. However, part-time work is spread very unevenly across Member States, reflecting differences in legislation, infrastructure and cultural conventions.

Europos įmonių tyrimas padeda dokumentuoti įmonių lankstaus grafiko strategijas, jis yra unikalus lyginamųjų duomenų apie socialinį dialogą darbo vietoje šaltinis. Ankstesnis Eurofound tyrimas parodė, kad bendrovės įvairias lankstumo priemones taiko ne atskirai, bet jas derindamos. Tyrime nagrinėjami įvairūs kiekybiniai ir kokybiniai vidaus ir išorės lankstumo priemonių aspektai.

The European Company Survey 2009 on flexibility practices and social dialogue is the second European-wide establishment survey to be undertaken by Eurofound. The survey documents flexibility strategies in firms and is a unique source of comparative information on social dialogue at the workplace. According to management and employee representatives in 27,000 public and private establishments across Europe, working time flexibility is the most common type of flexibility available in European companies.

It was implemented in 30 countries, i.e. the 27 EU Member States and the three Candidate countries (Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey). The aim of this survey was to collect statistical information on company structures and practices on flexibility, as well as the development of social dialogue in companies. The present document is the quality report on the 2nd ECS.

This report presents some descriptive findings of Eurofound’s European Company Survey (ECS) 2009 on the structure of industrial relations and social dialogue as well as working time patterns in the commerce sector in Europe. Collective bargaining coverage and the degree of employee representation in the commerce sector is generally low compared with cross-sectoral national averages, but the deviation from the respective country average is much higher in countries with a low general coverage rate. Trade union membership is also lower in the commerce sector.
