As part of its #BrusselsBriefings series, Eurofound is hosting an off-the-record session dedicated to its latest research on mental health. The briefing takes place on Tuesday 9 December 2025 from 10:00 to 12:00 CET.

Event background
Eurofound expert Hans Dubois presents recent findings drawing comparative data, exploring how crises such as the Great Recession and COVID-19 have shaped mental-health outcomes, how different risk groups are evolving, and why social and economic conditions remain central drivers of poor mental health.
The briefing also addresses worrying recent trends, including a stalling of the decline in suicide deaths and recent increases especially among youngest and oldest age groups, and the increasing or continued strain on Europe’s mental-health systems regardless of increased capacity. Participants will gain insights into what works, where gaps persist, and how policy can strengthen prevention, inclusion and access to trustworthy, person-centred support.
This off-the-record event gives stakeholders an opportunity to engage directly with Eurofound’s expert on the most recent data and analysis. After the opening and a short presentation, the schedule will include a Q&A and an exchange of ideas with the audience.

Προηγουμένως, πέρασε σχεδόν 20 χρόνια στις Βρυξέλλες εργαζόμενος σε διάφορους ρόλους, πολλοί από αυτούς στην Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, μεταξύ άλλων ως εκπρόσωπος της ΓΔ Απασχόλησης, Κοινωνικών Υποθέσεων και Ένταξης (2010–2012) και της ΓΔ Προϋπολογισμού (2007–2009). Προτού αναλάβει καθήκοντα εκπροσώπου Τύπου της Επιτροπής, ήταν υπεύθυνη Τύπου στη ΓΔ Απασχόλησης (2005–2007) και συντάκτρια ομιλιών για τον Επίτροπο και τη Γενική Διευθύντρια την εποχή εκείνη (2003–2005). Πριν από τη θητεία της στην Επιτροπή, εργάστηκε για την RTÉ radio and television (ιρλανδική εθνική τηλεόραση) στις Βρυξέλλες ως βοηθός παραγωγής και ερευνήτρια, και αργότερα ως παραγωγός ειδήσεων. Η Cristina είναι πτυχιούχος Εφαρμοσμένων Γλωσσών από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Ulster στο Coleraine της Βόρειας Ιρλανδίας.

Senior research managerΟ Hans Dubois είναι ανώτερος διευθυντής έρευνας στη μονάδα κοινωνικής πολιτικής του Eurofound. Τα ερευνητικά του θέματα περιλαμβάνουν τη στέγαση, την υπερχρέωση, την υγειονομική περίθαλψη, τη μακροχρόνια φροντίδα, τις κοινωνικές παροχές, τη συνταξιοδότηση και την ποιότητα ζωής στην περιοχή. Ολοκλήρωσε το διδακτορικό του στη Διοίκηση και Διοίκηση Επιχειρήσεων στο Πανεπιστήμιο Bocconi (Μιλάνο), αφού εργάστηκε ως ερευνητής στο Ευρωπαϊκό Παρατηρητήριο για τα Συστήματα και τις Πολιτικές Υγείας (Μαδρίτη).
