Event background

This informal ministerial meeting brought together 27 ministers responsible for employment and social policy. The participants discussed the working topics of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, especially the impact of energy poverty and the Ukrainian crisis.

On 14 October, following interventions by the EU Presidency and Nicolas Schmit, EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Eurofound’s Executive Director, Ivailo Kalfin, fed into the discussions drawing on Eurofound’s most recent data with a presentation on the impact of raising energy prices on the social situation of EU Member States.

An fócas a aistriú ó fhóirdheontais fuinnimh go spleáchas ar fhuinneamh a laghdú

Tá praghsanna fuinnimh ardaithe mar gheall ar ionradh na Rúise ar an Úcráin agus na smachtbhannaí dá bharr. Tá fóirdheontais fuinnimh agus laghduithe CBL ar leictreachas, gás agus breosla tugtha isteach ag rialtais atá ag iarraidh tionchar diúltach arduithe praghsanna ar theaghlaigh a mhaolú. Cé go bhféadfadh beartais den sórt sin a bheith ag teastáil chun na daoine is mó atá i ngátar a chosaint, is réiteach gearrthéarmach é fóirdheontas a thabhairt d'úsáid fuinnimh – is cúiteamh sealadach, páirteach é nach sroicheann i gcónaí iad siúd is mó atá buailte. Ina theannta sin, tá fóirdheontas a thabhairt d'úsáid fuinnimh breosla iontaise ag teacht salach ar aidhmeanna an AE astaíochtaí carbóin a theorannú agus a spleáchas fuinnimh ar thríú tíortha, amhail an Rúis, a choinneáil.
