Hybrid event: Background

Europe is at a turning point. The pandemic has caused significant economic hardships and exacerbated existing inequalities in our societies. The Russian military aggression against Ukraine has violated humanitarian and human rights law and shattered the peace in Europe. The rising costs of energy, goods, and services as well as Climate change poses an existential threat to humanity. All these crises have a clear gender dimension.

The purpose of the conference was to discuss how to best promote gender equality in the new realities with a specific focus on economic and social rights. On 3 October, Massimiliano Mascherini, Head of social policies at Eurofound, took part in the conference, speaking at the session on the Green transition and its impact on living costs and energy poverty. Massimiliano’s focus was on the impact of energy poverty on living conditions.
