U 10 godina od 2014. do 2024. broj radnika u socijalnim službama u EU-u povećao se s 8 milijuna na 10 milijuna. Oni sada čine 5 % ukupne radne snage EU-a. Istodobno se taj sektor suočava s nedostatkom radne snage i i dalje ga karakteriziraju niske plaće – oko 20 % manje od prosječne plaće u gospodarstvima država članica u cjelini.
