En los 10 años transcurridos entre 2014 y 2024, el número de trabajadores de servicios sociales en la UE aumentó de 8 millones a 10 millones. Ahora representan el 5 % de la mano de obra total de la UE. Al mismo tiempo, el sector se enfrenta a una escasez de mano de obra y sigue caracterizándose por unos salarios bajos, alrededor de un 20 % menos que el salario medio en el conjunto de las economías de los Estados miembros.
