Za 10 rokov od roku 2014 do roku 2024 sa počet pracovníkov sociálnych služieb v EÚ zvýšil z 8 miliónov na 10 miliónov. V súčasnosti tvoria 5 % celkovej pracovnej sily EÚ. Toto odvetvie zároveň čelí nedostatku pracovnej sily a naďalej sa vyznačuje nízkymi mzdami – približne o 20 % nižšími ako priemerná mzda v hospodárstvach členských štátov ako celku.
